Warning: you are NOT authorized to operate this
instrument unless:
(1) You have been officially trained and registered by the Radiation
Safety Committee.
(2) You have been technically trained by XRD coordinator in this research
group.
(3) You have reserved your slot on-line.
(4) You have completed the operation record in the logbook (except the
“time-out”).
Instructions:
(1) Turn on the Water Chiller.
(2) Switch on the Computer.
(3) XRD Power on.
(4) Turn on HT Key.
(5) Start program “X'Pert Data Collector” using the general user ID
and pass.
Warning: Never change the passward --- all stored
data will be deleted!
(6) Click “Instrument” and then “Connect” XRD through two “OK”
(7) Go to Instrument Settings, and set the X-ray generator parameters:
Tension = 45 kV, Current = 20 mA.
(8) From File Manu, Select “Open program” (or create a new program using
Absolute Scan). After setting your scanning parameters, close the “Prepare
Absolute Scan” window and save your changes. Start your scan at least
from 5o.
(9) Turn on the inside light, gently open the XRD door, and put your
sample on the holder, and gently close the door using your both hands!
(10) Click “Measure” then “Program” and select your program. Through
“OK” enter “Start” window, then set your file name (Usually using your
name_Sample name.xrdml, like “Fangjy_PbSe-1.xrdml). Do not change the
folder “C:\X'Pert Data”.
(11) Click “OK” and start the scan!
(12) When finishing your scan, take your sample out and keep the door
close.
(13) If other people will use the XRD after you, please do not shut
down the computer and XRD.
(14) If you are the last one and no one will use the XRD within 24 h,
please shut down the computer and XRD through the following procedures:
(A) Go to Instrument Settings, and decrease Tension to 15 kV, Current
to 5 mA. (B) Disconnect the XRD from PC, and close the “X'Pert Data
Collector” program. (C) Turn off the HT Key. (D) Push the “Stand by”
button and Power off. (E) Turn off the Water Chiller. Warning: Never
disconnect the program “X'Pert Data Collector” when the instrument is
running !!!
(15) Treat your data: open “X'Pert HighScore” program. Open your file
from “C:\X'Pert Data”. Please save your data in your folder in “D:\Data”
and do not delete your original data from “C:\X'Pert Data”. You can
save you data as “General ASCII Scan (*.ASC)” file in your folder in
“D:\Data” for plotting the XRD pattern by Origin, Excel, or other programs.
If you have any questions, please contact the XRD coordinator or

(1) It is our policy that anyone must be trained and qualified before
operating this instrument independently.
(2) Instrument sign up is done through our web calendar system. You
can contact us to have a password. It is important that you stick to
your time.
(3) It is strictly required to clean up your stuff and sign up the logbook
after your experiment.
(4) Please be conscientious of the fact that you are operating a piece
of equipment that is used for numerous scientific projects. Therefore,
any instrument downtime due to careless handling will affect many different
investigators.
