Thank You for Your Interest in Our Group!
We are actively accepting students for the doctoral programs in the
Chemistry Department, and
Materials Science and Engineering (
MSE).
If you are interested, please feel free to contact Dr. Fang by email. When reaching out, please include:
Your CV; A brief description of your previous research experience (including publications, if have); A short explanation of how your current research interests align with one or more of our lab’s research directions.
Before writing, we strongly encourage you to review our group website and familiarize yourself with our ongoing research. Our most recent publications, posters, and project descriptions are the best place to start, although we also have new projects under development.
Please note that admissions are highly competitive and are handled exclusively by the departmental and program recruitment committees. Individual faculty members do not have the authority to admit students directly. However, early communication and identifying potential research alignment can be helpful as you plan your future research path.
Funding Information-
Chemistry Ph.D. Program: Offers typically include teaching assistantships (TA) for up to 8 semesters, depending on performance and GPA. TA positions may transition to research assistantships (RA) in later years, subject to funding availability.
MSE Ph.D. Program: Students are generally supported through a two-year TA appointment, teaching in either the Physics or Chemistry Department. Additional support through RA positions may be available depending on research grant funding.
Master’s Programs: In most cases, master’s students are not financially supported under university policy, although TA positions may occasionally be available on a case-by-case basis.
For detailed application requirements and to access the application portal, please refer to the Graduate School website. All applications must be submitted online.

We offer research positions for undergraduate students interested in gaining hands-on experience in our lab. Please note that senior students are generally not encouraged, as completing the foundational research training requires time.
Students can participate for academic credit by registering for
CHEM397 or
CHEM497. During regular semesters, participants will engage in all group activities, including attending group meetings and conducting lab-based research on a weekly basis.
Undergraduate research assistant positions may also be available during the summer for suitable candidates, typically those who have completed
CHEM497 in our group with strong performance. Please note that students cannot earn academic credit and a summer research scholarship simultaneously.
If you are interested in joining our team, please prepare your CV and contact Dr. Fang by email.
We do not currently have additional positions for postdoctoral researchers. However, if you have a project or approach that aligns with our lab’s research interests, or if your broader research interests match those of the lab, please feel free to
contact us to discuss potential opportunities.
If you are interested in exploring future opportunities or potential collaborations with our lab, we encourage you to
reach out to us directly. We welcome inquiries from individuals whose research interests align with our work and are happy to discuss possibilities when appropriate. This page will be updated as new opportunities become available..
